There is a huge team working together
What is the role of a performance nutritionist?
- Provides energy
- Mental health
- Support growth
- Improve school/uni/work
- Reduce tiredness and illness
How do sports nutritionist impact performance?
- Prevent injury
- Increase muscle mass, mental performance, skill execution
- Reduce fatigue
- Meet body comp goals

What influences nutrition?

- Knowledge
What does pre-season involve?
High-training load, want to make them as fit and strong as possible
- This is when we get the most adaptation
- Testing is done in this time
What does in-season involve?
Lower training load as we are basing everything around game day
- This is more of a maintenance period
- Take travel, nerves and pressure into account
How does international travel incur more risk?
- New foods
- Less choice
- Try and make it as normal as possible with timing and food choices
- Try and get players to make the right choices regarding treats and alcohol
How does supplementation work with overseas travel?
- Travel with a massive log of supplements with information to avoid them getting taken off you
- Overseas supplements could be contaminated so want to try and use the ones you know are safe from home
What does nutrition pre-game look like?
4 hours before = big meal
1 hour before = snack to top up
What is the nutritional goal during games?
ensure athletes have enough energy in them and this is maintained
What is the priority post game?
Fluids and protein
What factors need to be taken into account on big trips?
- Injuries
- Illness
- Sleep
- Jet-lag
