What are some criticisms of studying gender?
The stereotype threat, discrimination, removal of responsibility, gender as a binary
What are some cultural commonalities with gender?
Men: Aggressive, autonomous, achievement oriented, dominant, exhibitionist, instrumental
Women: Cooperative, nurturing, submissive, communal
What can explain the commonalities across cultures with gender?
Possibly hormones (testosterone and oxytocin)
What country/continent has the highest rate of agreement with gender commonalities?
North America, as our media is very gendered.
What was the study done on babies and gendered clothing?
Babies were dressed in yellow clothes. 50% of the time, adults were told the wrong gender of the baby. Talked to the babies in a gendered way-made more eye contact and spoke more to girls.
What types of things are girl babies more interested in versus boy?
