LEcture 06 Nervous system introduction, Brachial PLexus Flashcards
What are major components of the nervous system ?
- CNa
- brain
- spinal cord
- PNS
- Cranial nerves
- spinal nerves
- ANS
- Sympathetic
- parasympathetic
WHat are the functions of the nervous system?>
- Functions:
SENSORY
MOTOR
COGNITIVE
What are characteristics of the CNS ?
- Unpaired, bilaterally symmetrical structures extending along the longitudional axis of the mid sagittal plane of the body
- structures arising directly from the nerual tube
- includes spinal cord and brain
What are the characteristics of the peripheal nervous system?
Made up of nerve pathways carrying information b/w the CNS and the external and internal environemnts.
Contains AFFERT (sensory) pathways carries info to CNS
COntains EFFERT (motor) Pathways carry info away from CNS
Cranial nerves and spinal nerves
How many cranial nerves and spinal nerves are there?
Cranial nerves : 12 pairs
Spinal nerves: 31 pairs
What are characteristics of the Autonomic Nervous System?
Entirey motor,
innervates smooth muscle and glands
Sympathetic and parasympathetic
Why did Dr. Anderson seperate PNA and ANS?
BEcause the ANS is entirely motor and does use trasnsmit sensory info back to the CNS
