Brachium And Cuvital Fossa Flashcards
What are the attachments, action, and innervation, of Biceps brachial?
Two joint muscle crossing vita the glenohumeral and elbow joints
Proximal Attachment:
Short head from tip of coracoid
Long head from the Supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Distal Attachment:
Tuberosity of radius
Action:
Flexion and supination of forearm
Assists in forearm flexion
Innervation:
Muscle cutaneous nerve. (C5-C6)
What is the attachments, actions, and innervation of the coracobrachialis?
Single joint muscle crosses only glenohumeral joint.
Proximal attachment:
Tip of coracoid
Distal Attachment
MIddle third of medial border of humerus
Single joint muscle crossing only glenohumeral joint
Action:
Weakly flexes and adducted arm
Innervation:
Musculocutaneous nerve
C6-C7
What are the attachments, actions, and innervation of the brachialis?
Single joint muscle crossing only the elbow joint
Proximal Attachment:
Distal half of anterior surface of humerus and intermuscular septum
Distal Attachment
tuberosity of coronoid process
Action:
Main flexor of forearm
Innervation:
Musculocutaneous nerve C5-C6
What muscles are in the posterior brachial compartment?
Triceps brachial: long, lateral,medial heads
Aconeus
What are the functions of the posterior brachial compartment?
Forearm extensions, long head of triceps can extend shoulder (brachial), and synergistic in forearm supination
What is the posterior brachial compartment innervated by and what are nerves passing through?
Innervated via Radial nerve and Functional neurological level = C7.
Median and ulnar nerve
What vascularizes the posterior brachial compartment?
Deep brachial artery
What are the triceps brachii attachments, action, and interactions?
Proximal attachments
Long head from infraglenoid tubercle
Lateral head from posterior surface of humerus above radial groove
Medial head from posterior surface of humerus below radial groove
Distal Attachment:
Olecranon. Process
Action:
Forearm extension
Long head also assists in arm extension
Innervation:
Radial nerve
C6 - C8
What innervates and which nerves passes through the anterior brachial compartment?
Musculocutaneous nerve
Functional neurological level c5 - c6
Median nerve and ulnar nerve pass through
What vascularizes the anterior brachial compartment
Brachial artery
Basilic vein and venae comitantes
What are the attachments, actions, innervation for the Anconeus
Proximal:
Posterior aspect of lateral epicondyle of humerus
Distal:
Lateral surface of olecranon
Superior part of posterior surface of ulna
Actions:
Abducts ulnas during pronation of forearm
Assists triceps during forearm extensions
Innervation:
Radial nerve
C7- c8, T1
Where is the superior lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm originate from?
Axillary nerve
What branches off of the medial cord?
Medial brachial cutaneous nerve and the antebrachial cutaneous nerve
Where does the lateral antebrachial nerve arise from?
Termination of the musculocutaneous nerve
What branches from the radial nerve?
Posterior cutaneous nerve of arm and posterior cutaneous nerve of forearm
What does the medial nerve supply?
Supplies the flexor muscles of the radial side of the forearm.
Travels with brachial artery
- Lateral in upper half of brachium
- Medial in lower half of brachium
Crosses cubical fossa superficially:
-w/ brachial artery
Deep to bicipital aponeurosis
What does the ulnar nerve supply?
Suppliers flexor muscles on ulnar side of the forearm
- starts in anterior brachial compartment
- Medial to brachial artery
- Runs with superior ulnar collateral artery
- Pierces medial intermuscular septum
- Enters posterior compartment of the brachium
- Passes around superficial medial epicondyle
- Passes into forearm b/w two heads of flexor Capri ulnaris muscle
What does the radial nerve supply?
Supplies extensor muscles in posterior compartment of brachium as well as extensor muscles of the wrist and hand . ALSO THE BRACHIOradialis extensor Capri radialis longus
Descends Posterior to the axillary artery to the axillary artery
- Spirals around the posterior surface of the humerus in the spiral (radial) groove
- accompanied by deep brachial artery
Passes into forearm (b/w the brachialis muscle medically and the brachioradialis muscle laterally)
What does the musculocutaneous nerve innervates?
Pierce’s the coracobrachialis
Innervates muscles of anterior brachial compartment
Pierces fascia lateral to biceps
-CONTINUES AS LATERAL CUTANEOUS NERVE OF THE FOREARM
-SUPPLIES SKIN ON LATERAL FOREARM AS FAR AS WRIST
