LEC10/2 pre anes drugs/anticholinergics Flashcards
What are anticholinergic drugs?
A class of drugs that block acetic ikon receptors
What are three reasons preanesthetic drugs are administered?
Facilitate handling of the patient
Decrease undesirable side effects of general anesthetic a
Provide analgesia during surgical procedure
What are two examples of anticholinergic drugs?
Atropine and glycopyrolate
What is atropine derived from?
Nightshade
Why is glycopyrolate a better choice than atropine
Synthetic, longer lasting effect, less likely to cross placental barrier in pregnant animals
What are atropine and glycopyrolate effects?
Prevent abnormally slow hr
Prevent excessive salivation and reap secretions
Can decrease GI motility
Can cause bronchodialation
