LAB11/4 Inadequate Anesthesia Flashcards
What are two things that can happen with intraarteri all injection?
Rapid onset with a short duration and possible seizures if injected into the main arteries
How can injectable anesthetics cause poor anesthesia?
Poor absorption with sc or I’m administration. It may have gone into the fascia, fat deposits, or devitalized tissue
How can inhalant anesthesia be inadequate?
Resdistribution of Injectable induction agent
What are three things you will see with inadequate inhalant anesthetic?
Animal may begin to wake up
May see rapid or irregular breathing
May see movement and reflex activity
How can you treat jnadequaye inhalant anesthesia? 2
Increase 02 rate 3-4 times the calculated maintenance
Ventilate animal 2x or more a min
What will happen with esophageal intubation?2
Animal will awake when injectable wears off
Gastric distention and Vomitting
What are sixways to confirm proper placement of a ETT?
Feel air pass through tube Listen for cough or forecful breathing Visualize placement Palpate in trachea Give breath and listen for air escaping Watch rebreathe my bag and valves
What can cause a lack of carrier gas?
Cylinder not open
Cylinder empty
When should you change the cylinder?
At 300PSI
What is the equation to find out the amount of Liters left in a cylinder?
300 x 0.3
What will a closed pressure relief valve do?
Cause pressure to build up in system and lungs causing animal not to breath
What will an undersized ETT cause?
Cause animal to breath around the tube meaning not as much gas is getting into the animals system
What happens with endo bronchial intubation? 2
End of tube is in a bronchial causing fresh gas to be cut in 1/2
When is apnea most often seen?
Seen at induction
What should you do to an animal with apnea?
Breath for animal 2-4 times per min until it breaths on its own
