Learning Flashcards
What is classical conditioning?
The process by which we learn to associate stimuli and thereby anticipate events.
Who created the idea of Unconditioned response and Conditioned response?
Pavlov
What is a neutral stimulus?
This is a stimulus that does not naturally elicit a response.
What is high-order conditioning?
When we associate a new neutral stimulus with the conditioned stimulus.
What is aquisition?
This is when an organism initially learns to associate the neutral stimulus with the unconditioned stimulus.
What is extinction?
This is when there is a decrease in conditioned response when the unconditioned stimulus is not given with the conditioned stimulus.
What is spontaneous recovery?
This is the return of previously extinguished conditioned response.
What is stimulus discrimination?
When an organism learns to respond differently to stimuli that are different.
What is stimulus generalization?
When an organism responds to stimuli that are similar to the conditioned stimulus.
What is operant conditioning?
This is an action - consequence based conditioning.
What is the law of effect and who tailored it?
Behaviors that are followed by positive consequences are more likely to be repeated. Edward Thornekie.
Who is the founder of behaviorism?
John B. Watson
What are the two types or consequences?
Reinforcement and Punishment.
What is shaping?
Rewarding an organism when they do anything that resembles the desired action.
What is continuous reinforcement?
When the organism receives a reinforcer every time they exhibit the desired behavior.
