Q

How are leaves arranged in large trees

A

In large trees with lots of leaves, the leaves at top
may shade those lower down. This is avoided by
having leaves divided into leaflets, or have jagged
edges, so light can get in between them.

Q

How do leaves at the top arrange themselves

A

Leaves at the top arrange themselves so
their edges are directed towards the sun. This allows light to pass
between them to the leaves lower down.

Q

Why do leaves not overlap one another?

A

Leaves do not overlap one another but are spread out on opposite sides, in whorls, alternate, or subopposite patterns. Therefore the leaves at the
top do not block the leaves at the bottom.
