The fleshy, cartilaginous external ear flap located on the side of the head. It functions to collect sound waves and direct them into the external auditory canal.
Auricle or pinna
The passageway that direct sound waves from the auricle to the tympanic membrane.
External auditory canal
Commonly called the “ear drum”. It separates the outer and middle ears. It vibrates when struck by sound waves and mechanically transfers the sound to the middle ear.
Tympanic membrane
These glands secrete cerumen, or earwax, into the external auditory canal. They are located at the base of hairs that line the canal.
