Landing gear and brakes Flashcards
How many weight on wheels (WOW) proximity switches are on the airplane?
Five; two on each main gear, one on the nose gear
What is the nose wheel weight on wheels proximity switch used for?
Nose wheel steering
Thrust reversers
Which of the weight on wheels proximity switches are used to determine the Air/Ground status of the airplane?
The four located on the main gear
How are the gear doors closed?
Main gear doors are mechanically connected to main gear
Nose wheel doors are controlled hydraulically
How is the gear normally raised and lowered?
Hydraulically
What is the gear indication for down and locked?
Green boxed DN
What is the gear indication for landing gear in transit?
Black and amber cross hatches
What does a red gear indication mean?
Disagreement between selected position and actual position after 20 seconds
What is the gear indication for landing gear up?
White boxed UP
Where can backup gear indication be found?
The RMU engine page
If normal gear extension fails, what are the other options to extend the gear?
Electrical Override extension
Free Fall extension
What is the red DN LOCK REL button next to the gear lever used for?
To raise the gear in the event of a solenoid failure
What causes the LANDING GEAR aural warning to sound?
One of the following must be met:
RA less than 1,200 feet + Low Thrust
Flaps set to 45
When can the LANDING GEAR aural warning be canceled?
If flaps are set to 0 or 9 and the RA is inoperative
What protections are available for the normal brakes?
Anti-skid
Locked Wheel
Touchdown
What is anti-skid protection?
If one wheel is slower than average, brake pressure is reduced to that wheel
When is anti-skid protection active?
Wheel speeds above 10 kt
What is locked wheel protection?
If one wheel is 30% slower than another wheel, all brake pressure is released to the slower wheel
When is locked wheel protection active?
Wheel speeds above 30 kt
What is touchdown protection?
Brakes are prevented from actuation until wheel speed attains 50 kt or 3 seconds after touchdown
Does the emergency brake have any brake protections?
No
What is the proper way to set and release the parking brake?
Press the normal brakes with toes and hold while setting or releasing parking brake
How are the wheels stopped after retraction?
Main gear has automatic inflight braking. The nose wheel has a mechanical snubber.
Why does the brake temperatures need to be checked prior to takeoff?
To check in the green range to ensure brake capability for a rejected takeoff
Which hydraulic system controls nose wheel steering?
Hydraulic system 1
How many degrees of turn is the aircraft capable of?
71 degrees with the tiller + 5 degrees with the rudder pedals = 76 degrees total
How is steering disengaged?
Press one of the steering disengage buttons on the back of each pilot’s yoke
