Flight Controls Flashcards
Which flight Controls are hydraulically powered?
Ailerons and rudder
How does the pitch trim work?
The horizontal stabilizer is electrically positioned
Name and describe the two types of tabs on the trailing edge of the elevator.
-Servo tabs are the two outer tabs, which movie at all speeds, in opposite direction of the elevator
Spring tabs are the two inner tabs, which movie only at high speeds, in opposite direction of the elevator
If the elevators or ailerons are disconnected, can they be reconnected in flight
No
What would be the indications if the elevators or ailerons are disconnected?
Yokes move independently and the amber disconnection light is illuminated
Is the artificial Feel Unit located on the right or left side of the aileron disconnection device?
The right side
Are the autopilot and stick pusher on the right or left side of the elevator disconnection device?
The left side
What happens to the rudder system above 135 KIAS?
Hydraulic system 1 shuts off to avoid rudder overboost
How can hydraulic power to the rudders be shut off manually?
Press in Shutoff buttons on the overhead panel
How can hydraulic power to the ailerons be Shutoff manually?
Press in Shutoff buttons on the overhead panel
How is the main pitch trim actuated?
Trim switches on pilots’ yokes
How is the backup trim actuated?
Backup trim switch on the center pedestal
If the captain’s and copilot’s pitch trim switches are both actuated, which takes priority?
The captain’s switch
If the main and backup pitch trims are both actuated, which takes priority?
Whichever one is actuated first
How does the roll trim work?
By repositioning the natural position of the ailerons
What does the quick disconnect button do?
Disconnects autopot
Disconnects yaw damper
Inhibits stick pusher
Inhibits all trim
What is the range of the green band on the pitch trim indicator?
4 to 8 degrees Nose up
If one half of a trim switch is held for more than _ seconds, that switch will be deactivated
Seven
What happens if a pitch trim switch is held longer than three seconds?
Trim stops and aural warning TRIM sounds
What happens if yaw or roll trim is actuated longer than three seconds?
Trim stops, no aural warning
Why must the aircraft be retrimmed after takeoff prior to reaching 160 KIAS?
At higher speeds, the trim motor will stall
If pitch trim is used while the Horizontal stabilizer actuator is stalled for a cumulative 16 seconds, that rim channel will be disabled
How are the flaps operated?
Electrically
How many flap motors drive the flaps?
Two
What is the indication if one flap motor fails?
Flaps will run more slowly, indicating one degree at a time, EICAS message FLAP LOW SPEED
Which panels comprise the speed brakes?
Only the outer two spoiler panels
Which panels comprise the ground spoilers?
All four spoiler panels
How are the ground spoilers deployed after landing?
Automatically with thrust Levers set below 30 degrees TLA
On landing rollout, how are spoilers stowed?
Automatically, when wheel speed is less than 25 knots
What conditions must be met to deploy the speed brakes?
-Speed brake handle set to OPEN
-Flaps 0 or 9
-Thrust levers below 50 degrees TLA
How does the electromechanical gust lock prevent elevator movement?
Locking pins are electrically driven into the elevator
What does it mean when the GUST LOCK lights on the glareshield are illuminated?
Locking pins are transition from locked to unlocked
What is guaranteed when flying above Flap Maneuvering speed?
Stall protection for bank angles up to 40 degrees
What is rudder hardcover protection?
Hydraulic power to the rudder is removed if these conditions are met
-Both engines running
-Rudder deflected 5 in one direction
-At least 130 lbs of force on the opposite ruder pedal
What markings can be found outside the airplane to view flight control positions?
Flap markings for 9 and 22
Pitch trim markings range between -4 to +10
