Autopilot Flashcards
On the flight guidance controller, what does it mean if a light inside a button is illuminated?
Nothing; always reference the mode indicator on the PFD
What is the indication if the turn knob is out of the center detent?
-ROL will be the lateral mode
-Amber TKNB indication of the PFD
-Autopilot is inhibited from engaging
During a windshear takeoff, or go-around, what is indicated by the ROL lateral mode?
Wings level submode
Which lateral mode should be selected to navigate to a VOR using green needles?
VOR mode, by pressing the NAV button while a VOR frequency is tuned
Which lateral mode should be used for a VOR approach using greed needles?
VAPP mode, by pressing the APR button while a VOR frequency is tuned
Which lateral mode should be used for a localizer approach?
LOC, by pressing the NAV button while a localizer frequency is tuned
Which lateral mode should be used for a localizer back-course approach?
BC, by pressing the NAV button while a localizer frequency is tuned
Which lateral mode should be used when following the FMS course
LNAV, by selecting NAV while using magenta needles
What is the default vertical mode?
Pitch hold (PIT)
If a new altitude is selected during level off while ASEL is the active mode, what will happen?
The airplane will revert to pitch hold mode, and will not maintain desired altitude
What vertical mode should be used to climb at a speed selected in the speed select blue bug?
IAS, by pressing the SPD button
What vertical mode should be used to climb at a set vertical speed?
VS mode
What happens when the FLC button is pressed?
-If preselected altitude is higher than present altitude, CLB mode becomes active
-If preselected altitude is lower than present altitude, DES mode becomes active
What is CLB mode?
The airplane follows a predetermined climb schedule, based on airspeed
Below 10,000 ft - 240 KIAS
Above 10,000 ft - 270 KIAS
What is DES mode?
The airplane follows a predetermined descent schedule, based on vertical speed
Above 12,000 ft - 2000 FPM descent rate
Below 10,000 ft - 1000 FPM descent rate
How is Takeoff mode entered?
Press the go around buttons while on the ground
What pitch does takeoff mode command?
14 nose up
How is go-around mode entered?
By pressing the go around buttons below 2500 feet
What pitch does go-around mode command?
10 nose up
What ways can the autopilot be disengaged?
-Press the quick disconnect
button
-Press the AP button on the FGC
-Actuate pitch trim
When disengage the autopilot, how can the AUTOPILOT aural warning be canceled?
Press and hold the quick disconnect button for two seconds, or until the voice acutates two times
What is the purpose of the BNK button on the FGC?
Selects low bank submode, reducing bank angle from 27 to 14
In pitch hold mode, how can pitch be adjusted?
Using the pitch trim wheel on the center pedestal
What does the TCS button do when the autopilot is off?
Syncs the flight director to the current flight condition, while maintaining the vertical mode
What does the TCS button do when the autopilot is on?
Inhibits the autopilot while held pressed
When released, the autopilot will maintain the new condition
Which climb modes provide protection against inadvertent stall?
CLB, IAS
Which types of approaches should be flown by pressing the NAV button?
Localizer only
Localizer Back Course
LNAV only
Which types of approaches should be flown by pressing the APR button
VOR
ILS
LPV
LNAV/VNAV
After a go-around, what mode will the vertical mode automatically transition to?
After 20 seconds, GA mode switches to IAS mode
If during a go-around, the flight direction is not commanding a 10 nose up pitch, what should the pilot do?
Pitch for 10 as airspeed allows, and press the go around buttons again
Above what altitude does low bank mode automatically activate?
25,000 feet
Above what altitude does IAS switch to MACH indications?
25,000 feet
