Q

BRAKE TEMP EICAS?

A

Any brake temp is 5.0 or higher

Will remain until all brake temps are below 3.0

11
Q

After takeoff, what anomalous feature do the gear doors have?

A

The gear doors automatically open one second after liftoff, even prior to moving the gear handle to UP

If the gear handle is not moved to UP within 30 seconds, the gear doors will close again

12
Q

Describe the process of lowering the gear

A

The handle is placed in the down position

Hydraulic pressure opens the gear door and unlocks the uplocks

The gear free falls to the DOWN position

Downlocks powered to locked position

Gear doors close and main gear hydraulically tilt to flight position

15
Q

Below what speed do the brakes only apply to 1/2 the brakes on each gear?

The next brake application?

A

787-8 up to 70 knots

787-9 up to 30 knots

Again, but with the remaining brakes. Brake pairs alternate on each application

16
Q

When are all active brakes applied?

A

Heavy braking

Landing rollout

RTO

Setting parking brake

17
Q

On landing, when does autobraking engage?

A

Both thrust levers are retarded to idle and the wheels have spun up

18
Q

Describe autobraking process when MAX AUTO is selected

A

Deceleration is limited to AUTOBRAKE 4 level until pitch angle is less than 1 degree

19
Q

How do you disarm the autobrakes?

A

Pedal braking is applied

Either thrust lever is advanced

Speedbrake lever is moved to DOWN detent

AUTOBRAKE EICAS will be displayed

The AUTOBRAKE selector automatically moves to the DISARM position

20
Q

If in RTO, what does the AUTOBRAKE selector do after takeoff?

A

It automatically disarms and moves to the OFF position

21
Q

When does RTO engage?

A

Aircraft is on the ground

Groundspeed is above 85 knots

Both thrust levers are retarded to idle

22
Q

What types of ABS does the 787 utilize?

A

Normal brake system provides each main gear wheel antiskid protection. If a wheel speed sensor detects a skid, the braking force is reduced until the skidding stops

Touchdown protection

Hydroplaning protection

Locked wheel protection

23
Q

Power for parking brakes?

A

Parking brake electric actuators

Clamped during the braking process, require no active power to maintain the clamping force

24
Q

Is the parking brake force constant?

A

No. Brake condition is monitored after application and clamping force is adjusted as needed during brake cooling

25
Q

GEAR DISAGREE EICAS

A

Any gear is not down and locked
after normal transit time

In expanded format, gear will be displayed as in transit

or UP if never unlocked

26
Q

Alternate Gear Extension System?

A

Dedicated DC hydraulic pump uses center hydraulic fluid to extend the landing gear

Selecting DOWN releases all door and gear uplocks

Gear free falls to down and locked

27
Q

Following an alternate extension, can you then raise the gear?

A

Yes, by selecting DOWN then UP with the gear handle

28
Q

When using the alternate gear extension system, what differences are noted on the MFD?

A

EICAS changes to expanded gear indication showing status of each gear

GEAR DOOR advisory message will also display, since gear doors will remain down

29
Q

AUTOBRAKE EICAS (7)

A

Pedal braking applied

Either thrust lever advanced

Speedbrake lever moved to DOWN detent

DISARM or OFF position selected

Autobrake fault

Normal antiskid fault

Loss of inertial data (IRUs)

30
Q

ANTISKID EICAS? (2)

A

Antiskid fault affecting the braking system

System is completely inoperative

31
Q

What does an empty white GEAR box indicate?

A

All landing gear position indicators are inoperative

32
Q

TIRE PRESS EICAS? (2)

A

Any tire pressure above or below normal range

Excessive pressure difference between two tires on the same axle
