Landing Gear Flashcards
Normal landing gear indication for gear down and locked?
Single green DOWN indication in green box
Hydraulic power for gear?
Center hydraulic system
Max angle of steering?
70 degrees
EBAs?
Electric Brake Actuators
How many EBAs are there?
Four for each landing gear wheel for a total of 32 EBAs
EBAC?
How many?
What does each control?
Electric Brake Actuator Controller
4 total
Each controls the brake force of a fore-aft wheel pair
What is the temperature range of the brakes shown on the gear synoptic?
0-9.9
What is the normal brake temperature range?
What color is the value displayed in?
0-4.9
White
What color are brake temperatures 5.0-9.9 displayed in?
Amber
BRAKE TEMP EICAS?
Any brake temp is 5.0 or higher
Will remain until all brake temps are below 3.0
After takeoff, what anomalous feature do the gear doors have?
The gear doors automatically open one second after liftoff, even prior to moving the gear handle to UP
If the gear handle is not moved to UP within 30 seconds, the gear doors will close again
Describe the process of lowering the gear
The handle is placed in the down position
Hydraulic pressure opens the gear door and unlocks the uplocks
The gear free falls to the DOWN position
Downlocks powered to locked position
Gear doors close and main gear hydraulically tilt to flight position
How are the wheel trucks tilted for retraction into wheel wells?
Forward wheels down
Rudder pedal nose wheel authority?
8 degrees either side
Below what speed do the brakes only apply to 1/2 the brakes on each gear?
The next brake application?
787-8 up to 70 knots
787-9 up to 30 knots
Again, but with the remaining brakes. Brake pairs alternate on each application
When are all active brakes applied?
Heavy braking
Landing rollout
RTO
Setting parking brake
On landing, when does autobraking engage?
Both thrust levers are retarded to idle and the wheels have spun up
Describe autobraking process when MAX AUTO is selected
Deceleration is limited to AUTOBRAKE 4 level until pitch angle is less than 1 degree
How do you disarm the autobrakes?
Pedal braking is applied
Either thrust lever is advanced
Speedbrake lever is moved to DOWN detent
AUTOBRAKE EICAS will be displayed
The AUTOBRAKE selector automatically moves to the DISARM position
If in RTO, what does the AUTOBRAKE selector do after takeoff?
It automatically disarms and moves to the OFF position
When does RTO engage?
Aircraft is on the ground
Groundspeed is above 85 knots
Both thrust levers are retarded to idle
What types of ABS does the 787 utilize?
Normal brake system provides each main gear wheel antiskid protection. If a wheel speed sensor detects a skid, the braking force is reduced until the skidding stops
Touchdown protection
Hydroplaning protection
Locked wheel protection
Power for parking brakes?
Parking brake electric actuators
Clamped during the braking process, require no active power to maintain the clamping force
Is the parking brake force constant?
No. Brake condition is monitored after application and clamping force is adjusted as needed during brake cooling
