C. Victims on a FE endangered by fire emitting from windows below them, use a fog stream from TL at an acute angle to the bldg to protect them while basket moves in for removal
D. Stream does not always have to be utilized at its full potential in order to be effective

Q

Special calling TL for use of its elevated stream incorrect
A: The IC should, if conditions permit, attempt to clear access to the fire building prior to the arrival of TL.
B: The IC shall have supply lines stretched, if possible.
C: When the TL is called to operate as a special unit at an incident, it should generally operate as a unit. The assigned personnel should perform duties centered around the function of this apparatus.
D: Supply source should definitely be designated prior to arrival of the TL so that TL personnel can stretch their own supply line on arrival.

Q

TL correct
A: If TL is not level, lower the jacks and outrigger on the low side first, then the jacks and outrigger on the high side until the unit is level as possible.
B: Difference of slightly over 15 feet from front to rear of the apparatus is approximately a 4% slope.
C: To judge that outriggers will clear all obstructions, a 10-ft. hook may be used as a gauge.
D: When overhauling, the top of the basket railing should be positioned slightly above the work area,

A

A. TL sec 2.1.4
B. TL sec 3.4.6 - A difference of slightly over 5-1/2 feet from front to rear of the apparatus is approx a 15% slope.
C. TL sec 2.1.7 - To judge that outriggers will clear all obstructions, a 6-ft. hook may be used as a gauge.
D. TL sec 7.1.2 - The top of the basket railing should be positioned slightly below the work area

Q

TL incorrect
A: Distance was short and sufficient slack was in the line, TL1 was moved w/o disconnecting lines as adequate manpower was available.
B: Since distance was great and HL had to be disconnected, lines were stretched and made ready at the new location before shutting down TL2’s stream at the TL Siamese and repositioning.
C: Upon arrival of TL3, the intensity of radiant heat prevented the positioning of the TL at the most advantageous position so the OIC had a HL create a protective water curtain, while TL3 was positioned, raised, and swung away from the fire until water arrived
D: Due to dangerous fire conditions the OIC selected a safe, temporary location of operation for TL4, allowing enough slack in supply lines to readily reposition the TL after the fire was sufficiently darkened down to permit repositioning for better coverage of fire building.

A

B) Water is not shut down at the TL Siamese, but at the supply pumper.

Q

LCS correct
A: Relay pumper adjacent to the TL should have in excess of 100 psi intake pressure with water flowing.
B: A Marine Unit is the best source of supply, if available.
C: When stretching 3-1/2” line to TL Siamese, it is always required to stretch the male end to the TL.
D: All hose connections at the TL shall be spanner tight.

A

D Lad-6 Tower Ladders Ops sect 6.6.1
A. Relay pumper adjacent to TL should have in excess of 80 psi intake pressure with water flowing.
B. Satellite Water Unit is the best source of supply, if available
C. When stretching 3-1/2” line to TL siamese, stretch male end to TL whenever possible to avoid need of extra fittings and time loss

Q

TL incorrect
A: TL was positioned in front of the building even though it wasn’t the longest side.
B: If stock is found piled high and in danger of falling and injuring personnel with a HL, the nozzle of the TL can be locked in position, with personnel in the basket, and basket extended into the building directing the stream by maneuvering the boom.
C: The basket of the TL can be positioned a foot or two above the street level and the tower ladder stream can be directed into the store or stores.
D: Street level attack at a taxpayer fire is most effective if the stream is used to penetrate ceiling and collapse it

A

B. Lad 6 - 6.3.1 - If, for example, stock piled high and in danger of falling and injuring personnel w/a HL or should the flr area be of doubtful stability, the nozzle of the TL can be locked in position, personnel REMOVED from basket, and basket extended into building directing stream by maneuvering boom
