Sprinklers in converted MDs and SROs
Converted MD: fire escapes added or sprinklers were installed in the interior halls in lieu of secondary means of egress;
SRO: sprinkler lines further extended into individual rooms.
Presence of sprinklers may indicate absence of fire escape (most brownstones- no fire escape)
One of the most important operations at brownstone fires?
VEIS of top floor. Single open interior stair often becomes involved in fire/smoke. Buildup of heat and smoke on top fl is extremely rapid.
Cockloft size in Brownstone
2’ to 3’ in height and the roof is pitched toward the rear of the bldg.

Some Brownstones have 2nd set of stairs in addition to main stairs. Choose correct
A. It will be found along a side wall toward the rear of bldg, enclosed from cellar to parlor floor
B. Found in rear of bldg enclosed from basement to 1st fl
C. Found in rear of bldg open from basement to parlor fl
D. Found along side wall or in rear of bldg open and will go from 1st to 3rd fl or will connect 1st, 2nd, and 3rd flrs

A. LCC positioned rig to completely cover fire bldg, raised AL to roof, and immediately moved ladder to VEIS top fl
B. When VEIS top fl, LCC teamed up w/2nd LCC
C. If fire was on top fl, LCC would have raised and positioned AL to roof of exp for use by OV and Roof FF who would go to roof
D. LCC chose middle window on top fl to VEIS instead of window over main entrance

Choose correct for Brownstone fire
A. All interior HL will be considered 1 3/4” for speed, mobility, and close qtrs
B. Noz FF shall make an announcement via HT when initial hoseline attack is to commence
C. Fully involved fire w/fire showing in exposures, 1st Eng should stretch one 3 1/2” supply line for TL and HL for entering the bldg
D. Fully involved bldg, consider stretching 2 1/2” HL for faster knockdown, greater reach of stream, increased volume of water, and increased exp protection

Converted brownstones to duplex apartments correct
A: When the high stoop remains in place, access to the upper apt will usually be the entrance under the stoop.
B: Open, unprotected stairs between floors within each apartment.
C: Partial areas of the floors may be cut out to create three-story high ceilings and balconies.
D: In all cases, ventilation of the roof will only provide ventilation for the apartments on the upper floors.
