Labratory Flashcards
Is laboratory primary or secondary data?
Primary data
What are the 2 researchs for this and explain?
1) Milgram (1974) - a 1960s experiments to see if people would harm others if an authority figure told them to - the “learner” was fake
2) Mayo (1927) - changed their lighting, rest breaks etc to see if their working conditions would change, it didn’t as they knew they were being studied
What are 2 advantages of practical?
1) quick - only a few participants needed
2) cheap - only the lab
What are 2 advantages of ethical?
1) consent
2) debrief - there behaviour is completely normal after the study
What are 2 advantages of theoretical?
1) objectivity - researcher can’t influence the study
2) test re-test - can repeat (reliability)
What are 2 disadvantages of practical?
1) can only do small samples
2) impossible to identify and control the possible variables
What is 2 disadvantage of ethical?
1) lack of informed consent - may not know the true aim of the study
2) deception - lying about the true reason for the experiment
What are 2 disadvantages of theoretical?
1) Hawthorne effect - reduces validity
2) lacks ecological validity - fake setting
