Field Experiments Flashcards
Is field experiments a primary of secondary data?
Primary data
What is the 2 researchs for this and explain?
1) Rosenthal and Jacobson - randomly tested students IQs and returned a year later to them and they made the most progress and the teacher payed attention to them
2) Rosenthan (1973) - fake patients with schizophrenia went to a mental hospital, they stopped complaining about hearing voices but the nurses still treated them the same due to their label
What are 2 advantages of practical?
1) natural, real life experiments - valid data
2) easier to gain access due to the natural environment
What are 2 advantages of ethical?
1) limiting harm - explains the nature of the study
2) alerts is of the dangers e.g milgrams study of obeying authority figures
What are 2 advantages of theoretical?
1) reliable - easy to repeat
2) can investigate labels
What are 2 disadvantages of practical?
1) less control due to it being in a natural environment
2) difficult to control extraneous variables- more realistic
What are 2 disadvantages of ethical?
1) informed consent may always be gained
2) deception - participants are lied to
What are 2 disadvantages of theoretical?
1) lacks verstehen
2) extraneous variables can’t be controlled
