Lab: Wrist & Hand Flashcards
Range of Motion:
wrist flexion= 80 wrist extension= 70 ulnar deviation= 30 radial deviation= 20 finger flexion finger extension finger abduction finger adduction finger opposition thumb flexion thumb extension
Tinel Wrist Sign:
pos. = reproduction of pain, tenderness and/or paresthesia in the median nerve distribution area (thumb, 2nd, 3rd, lateral half of 4th digits)
ind. = median neuritis (possibly carpal tunnel syndrome)
Phalen Sign AND Reverse Phalen Sign (AKA-Prayer Sign):
pos. = reproduction of pain and/or parasthesia in the median nerve distribution area (1st, 2nd, 3rd and lateral half or 4th digits)
ind. = median neuritis (possibly Carpal tunnel syndrome)
Finkelstein Test:
pos. = Pain distal to the radial styloid process
ind. = stenosing tenosynovitis of the abductor pollicis longus, and extensor pollicis brevis tendons (DeQuervain’s Disease)
Bunnel-Littler Test:
1-pos.= flexion of the proximal interphalangeal joint cannot be achieved 1-ind.= joint capsular contracture 2-pos.= flexion of the proximal interphalangeal joint is achieved 2-ind.= tight intrinsic muscles
Retinacular Test:
1-pos.= flexion of the distal interphalangeal joint cannot be achieved
1-ind.= joint capsular contracture
2-pos.= flexion of the distal interphalangeal joint is achieved
2-ind.=
Allen Test:
pos. = a delay of more than 10 seconds (Evans 5 secs) in returning a reddish color to the hand
ind. = Radial or ulnar artery insufficiency. The artery held (occluded) by the examiner, is not the artery being tested.
