Lab Topic 22 Flashcards
List the types of tissue
Connective, nervous, epithelial, and muscle
List the tissue layers
Ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm
What are simple tissues?
tissues formed from a single layer of cells all attached to a basement membrane
What are stratified tissues?
tissues formed from cells in multiple layers; cell division at basement membrane, older cells pushed outward
What is the ectoderm?
the outer layer of embryonic tissue that becomes the epidermis and nervous system in mammals
What is the mesoderm?
the middle layer of embryonic tissue that becomes the various connective and muscle tissues
What is the endoderm?
the inner layer of embryonic tissue that becomes the organs of the digestive tract in mammals
What do epithelial tissues do?
line and cover surfaces, cavities, and organs
What do connective tissues do?
connect different tissues and parts of the body together
What do muscle tissues do?
control movement
What do nervous tissues do?
communicate via electrical impulse transmission
What are pseudostratified tissues?
cells appear to be stratified because of varied heights and locations, but all are attached to the basement membrane
