Lab Final Flashcards
ALARA
As low as reasonably achievable
3 cardinal rules
Time, distance, shielding
At what point in a females menstrual cycle is a woman least likely to be prego?
First 10 days with one day onset
Move tube 15 degrees caudal - which direction is that and how do we compensate for height?
Towards feet, drop height 1” for every 5 degrees of angle - 15/5= 3
40-3=37sid
Function of the grid
Absorbs scatter radiation
Bucky
Holds the IR
What is scatter radiation?
Radiation that spreads out in different directions from primary beam hitting the patient
Collimation
Restricting the X-ray beam to area of interest
Cropping
Removing part of an image
Shuttering
Process that eliminates ambient lighting to improve quality of image
Detent
Stops the transverse and longitudinal axis in a specific location in order to be lined up with IR
How would you know if the tube was not detented?
There is grid cutoff present
If you do not get an exposure in room 1 what are the most probable causes?
Did not press start after selecting view being performed, did not start a study, did not hold exposure button long enough, control panel was not on
If you expose in rooms 3 or 4 but an image is not produced what are the most probable causes?
Tube was not in detent, the digital detector battery is dead,
Quadrants of abdomen
RUQ, RLQ, LUQ, LLQ
Regions of abdomen
Right hypochondriac region, epigastric region, left hypochondriac region, right lateral reigon, left lateral region, umbilical, right inguinal, hypo gastric, left inguinal
Centering for lateral chest
MCP perpendicular T7
Centering for PA chest
MSP perpendicular T7
How to tell if your PA chest is rotated? Which direction?
Look at SC joints, if there is a large space between SC joint and spine, it is rotated
KUB supine centering
MSP perpendicular at level of iliac crest
