Tell me about yourself
My name is Brandon Makowski. I am 24 years old and i am a student at COD pursing a career in radiography. I do have an associates in science degree. I currently work at Costco in the food court. I have also worked in the pharmacy there as well as a tech. I enjoy learning about things related to the medical field, and a hobby of mine that i enjoy is working on cars.
Which of your characteristics would you most like to change?
Sometimes i am too critical of myself and i tend to overthinm things. So if i could change something, i would like to praise myself more and remind myself that i can constantly improve and get better each day.
What are your most valuable characteristics?
My most valuable characteristics would be being considerate, punctual, and being a leader.
What highschool or college classes did you like the most? The least? Why?
I enjoyed taking science classes, but specifically anatomy and biology the most. Learning about the human body, organ functions, and cells reproduce always intrigued me. My least favorite class would be history. Taking history classes was my least favorite because it didnt interest me as much.
What experience have you had in dealing with the public?
I have been a retail worker for 6 years and have much experience with dealing with the public. I always greet customers with a smile and execute orders to the best of my ability. I also deal with any situation that may arise by explaining a solution to a member. If the situation requies additional attention, then i will call over supervisor or manager to help solve the problem
Working in a Radiology department and in a hospital requires team effort. Are you a team player?
I am a team player. I have had experience as a team player in school and in the work environment. When i play the role as a leader i can delegate tasks to my coworkers and classmates that best suit their abilities. I am also there to solve any conflicts within my team. I also offer to help others with their tasks. I will carry out tasks that my superiors ask me to do
How did you become interested in Radiography?
I became interested in radiography because the thought of being able to use technology and different kinds of equipment to help patients intrigue me as well as being able to interact with patients and support them as they heal from their injuries.
Who influenced you the most in your career choice? How? Why?
A lot of my family members work in the medical field and they have inspired me to pursue a career in this field. They have always told stories about how they helped patients and it inspires me to do the same. I wanted to pursue a career in the medica field because i wanted to help patients and make a difference in their lives.
Who do you feel is the most important person in a hospital and why?
I feel that everyone is important in their own way. There isnt one that is the most important because everyone is helping someone and each situation is different. A suerbi could be fighting to save someones life. a nurse might be patching up a patietns wounds, or a doctor might be prescribing medicine to help save a patients life. Each medical professional is important to the situation they are delegated with, therefore there everyone is important.
What qualities do you think a good health professional should possess?
A good health profressional should be considerate, patient, and empathetic. A good health professional needs to take into consideration what the patient is going through and be able to ensure thag each patients needs are met.
Give an example of a recent high stress situation that you were in? How did tou react?
On super sunday the costco food court received many pizza orders and it became very overwhelming for all of us. I took initiative and delegated tasks to coworkers in which i knew they would succeed. For example one of my coworkers was very good at cutting and packing the pizzas when they would come out of the oven. They were able to perform their task quickly and efficiently and as a result of that the oven never got backed up and the customers were getting their pizzas on time.
What types of medical situations have you been exposedto?
I used to work as a pharmacy technician at costco and i would receive and fill prescriptions, interact with patients over the counter and over the phone, and i also processed patients medical insurance.
What will you do to learn how to cope with medical emergencies?
I will learn various calming techniques, such as deep breathing, always assuring myself i can handle the situation, and focus on my responsibilities.
What type of patient contact would you like in your job?
I would rather have direct patient contact to minimize miscommunication and ensure my information is as accurate as possible. I do understand that there will be times where that will not be possible because there may be patients who are unable to communicate because they are unconscious and i will have to speak with a family relative or spouse. I am willing to perform any type of patient contact that will help improve the situation.
What are yoir long term goals? Where do you see youself in 5 years?
My long term goals are to finish the radiography program at COD and after that continue my education to become a radiologist. In 5 years i see myself in medical school working towards getting my medical degree to become a radiologist.
