Action of Rectus Abdominus
Flex vertebral column
compresses abdomen

Intercostal nerves T7-T12
OIAN Rectus Abdominus
Origin: - Pubic symphysis and crest
Insertion:
- Costal cartilages of ribs 5-7
- Xiphoid process
Action:
- Flexes vertebral column
- Compresses abdomen
Nerve Supply: - Intercostal nerves T7-T12
Origin of External Abdominal Oblique
Lower 8 ribs

- Abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba
- Pubis
- Anterior Iliac Crest
Action of External Abdominal Oblique
Flexes vertebral column and compresses abdomen
- Ipsilateral flexion and contralateral rotation of vertebral column
Nerve Supply of External Abdominal Oblique
Nerve Supply:
- Intercostal nerves T7-T12
- Iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerves

Insertion:
- Abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba
- Pubis
- Anterior Iliac Crest
Action:
- Flexes vertebral column and compresses abdomen
- Ipsilateral flexion and contralateral rotation of vertebral column

- Intercostal nerves T7-T12
- Iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerves

- Inguinal ligament
- Iliac crest
- Thoracolumbar aponeurosis
Insertion of Internal Abdominal Oblique
- Costal cartilages of lower ribs
- Abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba
Action of Internal Abdominal Oblique
- Flexes vertebral column and compresses abdomen
- Ipsilateral flexion and rotation of vertebral column
