Lab 25 Flashcards
What is antibiotic
A substance produced by micro organism that inhibits other microorganisms
What is antibiosis
Against life
What is anti-microbial drugs
Antimicrobial chemicals used internally
What is a pathogen
A disease causing organisms
What is the disk diffusion method
Petri plate containing an agar growth medium inoculated uniformly over its entire surface. Paper discs impregnated with antimicrobial agents placed on the surface of the agar
What is the zone of inhibition
Zone around the disc that inhibits bacterial growth. Zone size affected by factors such as diffusion rate and growth rate of the organism.
What is the Kirby Bauer test
The standardized test for agar diffusion methods
What type of agar did we use in this experiment
Mueller Hinton agar
What is the minimum inhibitory concentration of an antibiotic
The minimum amount of antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth
How many times do you have to swab the Mueller Hinton agar plate
Three times completely (the whole plate)
Are the results of the handout did anything kill E. coli
No nothing kill e, coli
For the results of the handout what killed Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Acel lab cleaner
