Lactase
the enzyme that breaks down lactose (milk sugar)
Lacteal
A lymph capillary found inside the a villus, which contains absorbed fats.
Lactic acid
The chemical produced in muscles when glucose is respired anaerobically. Some bacteria also produce lactic acid during anaerobic respiration.
Large intestine
The final parts of the alimentary canal that absorb water and store faeces.

The factor that os the shortest supply and restricts a life processes, such as the rate of photosynthesis or the rate of growth.

The enzyme that digests fats to fatty acids and glycerol
Liver
the organ in the abdomen that produces bile, breaks down amino acids into ammonia, converts ammonia into urea, stores glucose in the form of glycogen and carries out detoxification of toxic chemicals, e.g. alcohol.
Lymph
the fluid formed when tissue fluid drains into lymph vessels.
Lymphatic system
System of thin-walled vessels and transports lymph and lymph nodes where white blood cells are found.
