Krebs cycle - non-synchronous Flashcards
1
Q
What type of process is the Krebs cycle?
A
- Aerobic; requires energy
2
Q
How does the Krebs cycle release energy?
A
Oxidises acetyl-CoA which has been produced from carbohydrates, fats and proteins
3
Q
What is pyruvate converted into and how?
A
- Acetyl CoA
- A carboxylic acid is removed and co-enzyme A is added
- It then enters the Krebs cycle
4
Q
What does the kerb’s cycle deliver and what does this lead to?
A
Delivers the following:
- 3 NAD+
- 1 FAD
- 1 ATP
Which leads to a total of:
- 12 ATP molecules
5
Q
How does the Krebs cycle help to replenish the production of ATP?
A
- By providing NADH to the ETC
