Kingdoms Flashcards
What are the six kingdoms?
Eubacteria, Archae, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia
cell structure
eubacteria: prokaryotic (gram -/+), unicellular
Archaea: prokaryotes with rigid cell walls, unicellular
protista: eukaryotic, mostly unicellular
fungi: eukaryotes, mostly multicellular with chitin cell wall
plantae: eukaryotes with cellulose cell wall, multicellular
Animalia: eukaryotes, multicellular
method of reproduction
eubacteria: asexual reproduction via binary fission (conjugate dna)
archaea: binary/multiple fission, fragmentation, and budding (see more on archaea flashcards) PRIMARY: BINARY
protista: asexual binary fission
fungi: (asexual) fragmentation, fission, and budding, and (sexual) spores
plantae: self-pollination/cross-pollination via vectors, wind, etc. (sexual reproduction)
Animalia: sexual reproduction (meiosis)
method of obtaining nutrients
eubacteria: photosynthesizers, chemautotrophs, heterotrophs
archaea: autotrophs, heterotrophs
protista: autotrophs, heterotrophs
fungi: absorptive heterotrophs
plantae: photosynthesizers (autotrophs)
animalia: heterotrophs
example of an organism
eubacteria: cyanobacteria
archaebacteria: halophiles
protista: diatoms
fungi: yeast
plantae: sunflower
animalia: dog
