Physical Health:
Taking part in physical activity and developing your components of fitness.
Emotional Health:
Being self-confident self-aware and resilient controlling your behaviour and coping with positive and negative criticism.
Social Health:
How you interact with each other and form relationships.
Well-being:
A term used to describe physical, emotional and social health.
Health:
A complete state of physical emotional and social well-being , not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
What does PEP stand for?
Personal exercise programme.
What is a PEP?
An exercise program designed specifically to you and your sport.
What does PARQ stand for?
Physical activity readiness questionnaire.
What is a PARQ?
A questionnaire devised to check whether you are fit and healthy and if it is safe for you to complete training or exercise.
Fractures:
A broken or cracked bone (can occur from a blow or severe twisting of a joint)
Dislocations:
When a bone at a joint is forced out of position, becoming displaced.
Concussion:
An injury caused by a blow to the head.
Symptoms: headache ,weakness, loss of coordination and confusion.
Soft tissue injuries:
A twist , pull or tear of a muscle or tendon.
Torn cartilage:
Cartilage: a firm substance which lines adjoining bones.
Torn cartilage is usually due to wear and tear from long term overuse.
What does RICE stand for ?
Rest, Compression, Ice, Elevation
What is a RICE?
A form of injury treatment.
Sedentary Lifestyle:
An “ inactive “ lifestyle. Very little or no excersise, daily routine involves a lot of sitting and lying down.
Lifestyle Choice:
A choice a person makes about how to live and behave , according to their tastes attitudes and values.
What does BMI stand for?
Body Mass Index.
What is BMI?
A way of calculating whether you are an ideal weight for your height.
Aerobic Respiration:
The process of releasing energy from glucose using oxygen.
Anaerobic Respiration:
The process of releasing energy from glucose without oxygen.
Pulse:
Used to measure HR , it is located at 2 sites - the radial (wrist) and cartoid (neck) arteries.
Resting Heart Rate:
The amount of times the heart beats per minute whilst at rest. Average = around 72 bpm.
