What is a PAR-Q?
A questionnaire devised to check whether a person is fit and healthy through a series of questions specific o their medical information.
What does PAR-Q stand for?
Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire.
Why would a PAR-Q be important before starting an exercise programme?
To make sure a person is ready to start an exercise programme and isn’t putting themself at risk.
What are the 5 ways to prevent injury?
1 - Correct application to the principles of training
2 - Correct addherence to the rules of an activity
3 - Use of protective clothing and equipment
4 - Checking equipment and facilities before use
5 - Warm up correctly

What is a fracture?
A broken or cracked bone.
How does a fracture occur?
From a blow or severe twisting/wrenching of a joint.
What are the symptoms of a fracture?
Pain at the site of the injury, inability to move the limb, tender, swelling, later bruising, deformity.
What is a dislocation?
When a bone at a joint is forced out of position, becoming displaced.
How does a dislocation occur?
As a result of a hard blow to the area.
What are the symptoms of a dislocation?
Deformity, swelling of the joint, severe pain.
What is a concussion?
A head injury - the brain crashes against the skull.
How does a concussion occur?
By a hard hit to the head/ blow to the head.
What are the symptoms of concussion?
Headaches, weakness, loss of co-ordination, confusion, slurred speech, loss of balance, loss of conciousness.
What is a joint?
Where 2 or more bones meet.
What is a soft tissue injury?
A tear or pull of tendons or ligaments.
What is a strain?
A twist, pull or tear of a muscle or tendon.
What is a sprain?
A twist, pull or tear of a ligament.
What is cartilage?
A firm substance which lines adjoining bones.
What does cartilage do?
It absorbs the impact on bones while reducing the friction in sports and general activities.
How does damage to a cartilage occur?
Usually due to wear or tear from long term overuse.
What is the most common form of injury treatment?
R.I.C.E
What does R.I.C.E stand for?
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
