The Medicines Act (1968)
Controls the use of both human and veterinary medicine use, including manufacture and supply in the UK
Veterinary Medicines Regulations (2013)
Set out rules by which veterinary medicines are regulated including the; development, production, marketing or distribution of veterinary medicine
The Misuse of Drugs Act (1971)
Sets out the classification of drugs (A-C) – these are drugs not used for therapeutic use, but often abused or used recreationally
The Misuse of Drugs Regulations (2001)
Allows for the lawful possession and supply of controlled (illegal) drugs for legitimate purposes; prescribing, administering, safe custody, dispensing, record keeping, destruction and disposal of controlled drugs to prevent diversion for misuse
The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)
employers protect the ‘health, safety and welfare’ at work of all their employees, as well as others on their premises, including temps, casual workers, the self-employed, clients, visitors and the general public
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (2002)
Requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health and includes nanomaterials. Cytotoxic pharmaceuticals are a good example of this
