Justification Flashcards
Give a definition of Justification
Justification is an act of God whereby He pronounces a sinner to be righteous because of that sinner’s faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:21-26
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
What is the basis on which God justifies the sinner?
Christ’s death on the cross (1 Peter 3:18)
Because the wrath of God is satisfied in Christ (Isaiah 53:4–6), we are free from condemnation (Romans 8:1), and God remains both fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
(Romans 3:26).
Identify and discuss the primary Scripture passages which teach the concept of justification.
Romans 3:23-26
“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.”
Romans 5
What is the nature of the change brought about by justification?
It brings about positional righteousness which rescues the justified sinner from death and separation from God to life and peace with God. Ephesians 2, Romans 5
Describe the relationship between justification and regeneration.
Justification is an act of God FOR us allowing regeneration which is an act of God IN us.
Colossians 2:13-14
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
