Healing Flashcards
Explain the biblical basis for healing and its relationship to the redemptive work of Christ.
“If sickness has come into the world through sin, which is conceded, it must be got out of the world through God’s great remedy for sin, the cross of Jesus Christ.”
- A.B. Simpson
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, Psalm 103:3-4
What instruction does James 5 teach in relation to healing?
“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.”
- Anyone - There is a universal invitation.
- Let them call the elders - The prayer for healing is a function of the corporate body.
- Anoint them with oil - The oil represents the presence and power of God coming upon the person in an unusual way. This is to be the understanding of the source of healing.
- in the name of the Lord - The power to heal comes from Jesus. The credit for healing goes to Jesus.
Explain the difference between the “gift of healing” and healing prayer as described in James 5.
“The gift of healing” is a unique spiritual gift given to some by the determination of the Holy Spirit.
- 1 Corinthians 12.
“Healing prayer” is available to every believer and requires no special gifting to make the request.
- James 5
How would you counsel a believer who has followed the instructions of James 5 and is still seeking a miraculous healing?
Living with yet-to-be experienced healing is a difficult stewardship opportunity but an opportunity nonetheless.
- How might we grow closer to Jesus in our illness?
- How might we glorify God in our illness?
- How might we become better prepared to meet Jesus?
In the anointing and prayer ministry for the sick by the elders, what does “the prayer of faith” mean?
“It is not the faith which heals, it is the God that the faith touches; but there is no other way of touching God except by faith, and, therefore, if we would receive His Almighty touch, we must believe.” - A.B. Simpson
How is the problem of sin related to the problem of sickness?
Sin yields illness and injury either because the one afflicted…
1. has sinned
2. has been sinned against
3. lives in a sin tainted world
Since all sin is addressed by the redeeming work of Jesus, all illness and injury is addressed by the redeeming work of Jesus. But the means of addressing the illness of injury may be to be with Him in glory.
Rev. 21:3-4
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
What is the difference between miraculous healing and divine life for the believer?
The divine life does not require physical healing.
2 Corinthians 4:6 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
is the Spirit living in us. (Romans 8:11)
