Judgement, Repentance and Forgiveness Flashcards
Define the term ‘repent/repentance’.
Saying sorry for sin, and turning away from a sinful lifestyle to serve God and do the right things. Most Christians think repentance is necessary for salvation.
Where can the parable of the Sheep and the Goats be found in the Bible?
Matthew 25
In the parable of the Sheep and the Goats, what do the sheep represent?
‘Good people’, who have helped those in need as if they were helping Jesus Himself, and these are the people that Jesus would send to heaven.
In the parable of the Sheep and the Goats, what do the goats represent?
‘Bad people’, who do not help those less fortunate than them, and these are the people said to be sent to hell.
What three verses in the Bible say that Jesus saves everyone who believes in Him and repent?
(Hint: all three are from John)
- John 11:25 (“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.”)
- John 1:9 (“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”)
- John 10:11 (“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”)
True or False?
Christians believe that “Even bad people will go to heaven”.
Trick question!
There are two Christian opinions to this:
1) They disagree with this statement because the sheep and goats parable shows that on judgement day, people are sent to heaven and hell depending on how they lived their lives.
2) They agree because Jesus died to get forgiveness for anyone who wants redemption for the bad things they have done. Those people will go to heaven as they have been forgiven.
