How does the Old Testament describe God?
In the Old Testament, God guides his people and is always with them. If people are obedient to Him then will go well for them, if they are not then things will not go well.

Psalm 23 (God is described as a loving shepherd who guides his sheep.”
How does the New Testament describe God?
Jesus taught that God was like a loving father. God is also described as a fair judge. It is a central part of the Christian religion that God is always good.

The parable of the Lost Son, in which Jesus compares the way a father loves his missing son with how Jesus loves people.
