Q

Give 3 points about Christian beliefs on animal rights.

A
  • It is a sin to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly.
  • It is not a sin to kill animals with as little suffering as possible for food, clothing, and the health and safety of humans.
  • Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is morally acceptable if it is within reason, and helps towards caring for humans or saving human lives.

Q

What does Genesis 1:27 tell Christians about how animals should be treated?
(“So God created human beings in His own image.”)

A

Christians believe that animals and humans are different. The quote from Genesis 1:27 says it is only humans that are made in the image of God. Humans are special, according to the Bible.

Christian teaching says that only humans have souls. Christians believe that only humans have been given special rights and privileges. They have been given power over the rest of the animals (stewardship) but with power comes responsibilities.
