Joints, Movements, Ligaments And Tendons Lesson 12 Flashcards
What is a Ligament?
Connects a bone to a bone
What is a Tendon?
Connects bone to muscle
What is Abduction?
Moving away from the body (bring arms out by your side like a T)
What is Adduction?
Bring closer to the body (pectorals when doing a bench press)
Flexion
Bending a joint (bicep when lifting doing a bicep curl)
Extension
Straightening a joint (tricep when trowing a dart)
Rotation
Limb moves in a circle around fixed point (arms when doing a golf swing)
Plantar flexion
Pointing toes away from the body
Dorsiflexion
Point toes to your body
Ball and socket joint
Can move arm round in many different axis . Found in hip and shoulder and can perform Flexion/extension, rotation, abduction, adduction, circumduction
Hinge joint
functions much like the hinge on a door, allowing bones to move in one direction back and forth. Found in knee amd elbow and creates flexion and extension
Pivot joint
allows only rotary movement around a single axis. Found in neck
What is a agonist
The muscle that tenses
What is an antagonist
The antagonistic muscle that relaxes
What are antagonistic pairs
Muscles that work together by one temsi g while the other relaxes.
