What are some disposing factors to septic arthritis?
TURP - transurethral resection of prostate
Staph skin infection
Ginivitis
UTI
Compare and contrast inflammatory joint pain with mechanical joint pain
Inflammatory joint pain is usually sub-acute or acute, unpredictable, worse in the morning, improved with movement, associated with stiffness, swelling may be prominent
Mechanical joint pain is usually chronic, slowly worsening, worse with movement, improved with rest, worse at the end of the day, has little stiffness
How might you differentiate gout from septic arthritis?
Systemic signs = more likely septic arthritis
(though but can have a fever)
What might you find on examination of someone with OA?
Crepitus
Muscle atropy
Genu varus
Reduced range of motion
