degenerative arthritis:
A
- progressive erosion of articular cartilage leading to joint ossification and immobility.
- brought on by old age, joint abuse, or obesity.

Rheumatoid arthritis:
A
- autoimmune disease causing thickening of synovial membrane, and breakdown of cartilage and bone.
- leads to stiffness, swelling, and pain

Gouty arthritis:
A
- metabolic disorder in males
- high levels of uric acid in blood, which leads to crystallization in the synovial sac.

Bursitis(inflammation of bursae):
A
- promoted by prolonged stress or pressure at joints.
- joint capsule not directly involved.
- tendon may calcify (stiffness)

Sprain (stretched or torn ligaments):
A
- may lead to dislocation of joint
- when a ligament is stretched to the point where some of the collagen fibers are torn.
