Joint Flashcards
What are the 3 types of joints?
1) fibrous joints
2) cartilaginous joints
3) synovial joints
What are the fibrous joints?
occur between two bones held closely and tightly together by fibrous tissue permitting little to no movement (ex skull bones, teeth with the mandible)
what are the cartilaginous joints?
also allow little to no movement . they occur between two bones tightly connected by cartilage , such as ribs , sternum or pubic sympahsis in the pelvis
what are synovial joints?
separated by a capsule filled with synovial fluid( provides lubrication and nourishment to the cartilage). synovial fluid also has phagocytic cells that removes microbes and particles which result from wear and tear from joint movement. synovial joints allow for a wide range of movement
