Definition of social psychology
Scientific study of the nature and causes of individual behaviour and thought in social situations
What is the social perception?
Impressions, judgement
What is the social influence?
The process where others can affect a person’s thoughts and actions
What is the social interaction?
A relationship between two or more people and how those relationships can change our perceptions and behaviours
What is the sociocultural perspective?
Social behaviour and culture
What is the evolutionary perspective?
Physical and biological predispositions that result in human survival
What is the social cognitive perspective?
cognitive process affect behavioural associations and vice versa (they also have social effects)
What is the social learning perspective?
Using reinforcements or punishments to endure a behaviour (observational learning)
What is the hindsight bias?
Tendency to think that you knew something would occur all along (being always right even in the face of adversity) “I knew it”
Why is common sense subjective?
It is affected by our personal experience and observation, which creates bias
What is the false consensus effect?
Assumption that everyone shares our opinion (fake army syndrome)
What is the confirmation bias?
Paying attention only to the information that supports our beliefs and disregarding the information that conflicts it (blinders syndrome)
What is the purpose of the scientific method?
Minimize bias while confirming information through research
What is the social facilitation?
Being among people will enhance your performance
What is the social loafing?
Less of an effort is made when attempting to achieve a goal as a group
