Charism
A specific gift or grace of the Holy Spirit which directly or indirectly benefits he Church, given in order to help a person live out the Christian life, or to serve the common good in building up the Church
Church
The name given the assembly of people whom God has called together from the ends of the Earth. This word has three meanings: the people that God gathers together, the local church. And the liturgical assembly
Concupiscence
Human appetites or desires remain disordered due to Original Sin. The desires resulting from attachment to the material world
Covenant
A solemn agreement between people or between God and ma involving mutual commitments and guarantees
Ex opere operato
Meaning that sacraments are effective by means of the sacramental rites themselves, not the worthiness of the minister or recipient
Form
The necessary ritual words and signs that accompany a sacrament
Habitual grace
A infused gift of the Holy Spirit, in which one’s soul receives the divine life of God. Also called sanctifying grace and a person receives the three theological virtues- faith, hope, and charity
Image of God (Imago Dei)
Present in all humans by God. Made evident in Baptism, as one is baptized into Christ and made a new creation.
Matter
The material or physical sign of a sacrament. (Water in baptism)
Messiah
Hebrew for anoited. Points to Jesus because he accomplished perfectly the divine mission of priest, prophet, and king
Minster
The person who administers or celebrates a sacrament
Mystical Body of christ
Based on St. Paul leader to the Corin. That all believers are united to Christ, therefore, united with one another
Original Sin
Adam and Eve’s abuse of human freedom in disobeying God’s command. They lost the grace or original holiness and justice. Everyone is now born with it and now humans are inclined toward sin
Protoevangelium
The first message of Good news mentioned in Genesis 3:15 in which the promise of Messiah and Redeemer is foretold
Redemption
The act by which Jesus, through his death on the Cross, set us free from the slavery of sin, thus redeeming us from the power of the devil
