Confirmation Flashcards
Confirmation completes
Baptism but is distinct from it
Confirmation confers a
sacramental character which binds Christians more deeply to the Church
Baptism is administered by
an anointing with chrism accompanied with the words / prayer
The chrism must be blessed by the
Bishop
The Bishop is the
Ordinary minster of Confirmation, the priest is the extraordinary minister
Baptism and confirmation
are the foundation of the common priesthood of all Christians and of the lay apostolate
Confirmation empowers one to
to courageously confess the faith publically
to communicate or hand on divine truth and love
Confirmation demands that we share in the apostolate of the Church
Y
the call to act and live as Christians in everything that we do
regardless of our vocation / call (every act is done in Jesus’ name)
apostolic responsibility is determined by
Personal vocation
requires that personal vocations be differentiated but that
Christians cooperate in carrying them out
no area or activity should be reserved merely for
self-indulgence; every act for every good should contribute positively to carrying out one’s personal vocation
every Christian is a martyr in some sense and therefore
needs the strengthening graces of confirmation to persevere in the face of the condemnations and negative reactions of the wicked
fulfillment of one’s Christian vocation also requires
strength because of the difficulty of confronting self-interest and worldly security (without abandonment of vocational commitments)
the work of discernment is to
recognize one’s own motives and to form probable opinions about the possibility of relying on and cooperating with others
