What is the most common bone disease and what are the symptoms?
Osteoporosis
- Brittle and weak bones, prone to break easily.
- Strikes more women than men.
What does the CNS consist of?
The brain and spinal cord.
What does the PNS consist of?
All nerves that exit the brain and spinal cord.
- It carries sensory and motor messages to other parts of the body.
What makes up the brainstem?
The hindbrain and midbrain.
What is the medulla oblongata?
A swelling of tissue just above the spinal cord.
- Signals that go to and from the structures of the brain pass through this region.
- Damage to this area will result in death.
What are the pons?
Pons = bridge
They form connections between the medulla oblongata and higher brain centres.
What is the cerebellum responsible for?
- The coordination of voluntary movements.
- Regulation.
- Balance.
- Maintaining muscle tone.
What are the structures of the limbic system?
- Hippocampus (memory).
- Amyglada (aggression).
- Hypothalamus.
- Cingulate gyrus.
What is the hypothalamus?
The ultimate control centre for the autonomic nervous system.
It is a major regulatory centre for:
- Eating.
- Drinking.
- Sex.
- Circadian rhythms.
- Temperature control.
