Intro to Learning (8) Flashcards
How does observational learning occur?
watch from others and learn
Observational learning is also referred to as?
Social learning
How can social learning cause stimulus enhancement?
see someone else that is important to interact with a stimulus, meaning it becomes more important to you
What did Galef (1996) determine about rats eating patterns?
rats will watch other rats in order to determine the safety of the food
What is true imitation?
duplicating behavior to achieve a goal.
What is vicarious conditioning?
Learn through watching someone else get reinforced for a behavior.
What vicarious conditioning?
learning through watching how someone else gets reinforced for behavior
3 factors that affect observational learning?
Acquisition
Context
Performance
How does acquisition affect observational learning?
If they pay attention and observe rewards and observe ability to benefits of behavior = more likely to imitate
How does context affect observational learning?
If the observed behavior matches the environment = more likely to imitate.
How does the power of the model affect likelihood of imitation?
If the model is an expert and identifiable they more likely to imitate.
How does performance affect likelihood of imitation?
If good consequences are observed they are more likely to imitate
In terms of language what is meant by ‘reference’?
Arbitrary symbols used to convey meaning
In terms of language what is meant by ‘grammar’?
rules that control meaning of sentences
In terms of language what is meant by ‘productivity’?
Expressing ideas via reference + grammar
