Stages of general adaption syndrome
Alarm stage- physical response
Resistance stage- increased physical response

The hypothalamus stimulating sympathetic nervous system resulting in physical effects
Sustained response stems from:
Hypothalamus stimulating the pituitary to release hormones resulting in various effects
Chronic response to stress promotes:
Susceptibility to disease
Psychological response to stress
Primary: anxiety and grief
Peplau’s 4 levels of stress
1) Mild- need to learn and pay attention, normal
2) Moderate- problematic, perceptual field, attention span, and concentration decreases
3) Severe- concentrate on 1 detail only
4) Panic- unable to focus on one detail
Behavioral responses to stress
Mild- coping behaviors; eating, sleeping, ect
Mild to Moderate- ego defense mechanisms
