Intrisnic Laryngeal Muscles Flashcards
Thyroarytenoid Parts
Thyrovocalis (Internal thyroarytenoid)
Thyromuscularis (External thyroarytenoid)
Thyroarytenoid origin
Inside surface of thyroid cartilage
Thyroarytenoid insertion
Ipsilateral arytenoid cartilage
Thyroarytenoid use
Reduces distance between thyroid and arytenoid cartilages and/or increases tension
Posterior cricoarytenoid origin
Back surface of cricoid cartilage
Posterior cricoarytenoid insertion
Upper and back surfaces of muscular process of the arytenoid cartilage
Posterior cricoarytenoid use
Rocks arytenoid cartilages away from midline and may also slide it upward and backward and abducts vocal folds
Lateral cricoarytenoid origin
Upper rim of cricoid cartilage
Lateral cricoarytenoid insertion
On the muscular process and front of arytenoid cartilage
Lateral circoarytenoid use
Rocks arytenoid cartilage toward the midline and may slide arytenoid forward and to the side
Causes vocal folds to adduct
Arytenoid parts
-Transverse
-Oblique
-Aryepiglottic
Arytenoid origin
Transverse: Back surface of one arytenoid
Oblique: Back and side surface and the muscular process of the arytenoid
Arytenoid insertion
Transverse: At the same location on the other arytenoid
Oblique: Apex of the opposite arytenoid
Arytenoid use
Transverse and Oblique: Pull arytenoid cartilages toward each other
Aryepiglottic: Pulls the epiglottis backward and downward to cover the larynx
Cricothyroid parts
-Pars rectus
-Pars oblique
