Q

Explain how we are fine with some hierarchies?

A

We are usually okay with more worth based hierarchies (meritocracy)
- Which might explains some peoples SDO score (Cuz we can justify why ppl got so high)

Less okay with stuff like monarchies (usually)

Q

What are the two types of people that usually select “strongly disagree”?

A

We are conditioned to believe in equality

  1. People who actually believe that
  2. People who know that’s what they’re supposed to think

Q

People with higher levels of SDO

Do they feel just little empathy to other groups they are in competition with, or none at all?

A

They can recognize the emotions in others (like they’ll know if someone is sad in the story)

As SDO increases people less often pick empathy (especially when from outgroup)

***Which emotions they feel is inline with their feelings about hierarchy

Q

What is another way to get a self report (besides verbal asking)

A

Physiological measures (ex. electrodes) (eye tracking- do they look at faces?)
- Good cuz ppl don’t often want to disclose they are prejudiced, or feel good at other ppls pain

Q

Can we see the same results in cross races studies (ex. not white participants?)

A

She tried that, and gender and finds the results messy

(High status SDO person and being low status = conflicting

Ex. if black person, it’s hard to have high level of SDO because you are low status (if you do, she finds it messy)

Q

What is the important difference between already formed hierarchies and forming hierarchies?

A

Already formed: (Stable) so emotions might just be about maintaining it

Forming: You really care about hierarchies, gonna feel emotion in line with what the hierarchy needs in order to form in the way you want it to

Q

How could america be going into hierarchy forming?

A

Minorities populations are getting bigger, (minority majority)

Q

What progress does she hope to see in the next few years?

A

Intersectionality - Important

And what does it say about studies on race and gender if you are only using black or white men
- Not capturing unique experiences

Ex. she is a black queer women (not many studies looking into responses from ppl that fall in all 3)
