Effects of having a cross race roommate

People who don’t fit into just one social category
(bicultural/biracial)

They are allowed to tack on extra questions to student surveys
Most previous roommate studies have been focused on intergroup prejudice (how much u like, or don’t like ppl from roommates group)

- Longitudinal / trickle down effects
How did people get more diverse friendship networks?
Roommate is introducing you to the friends
More experience talking to ppl in the group (courage for intergroup contact)
How did people go from: cross race roommate
TO
More positive behaviour in cross race interaction
All the experience (roomie and their friends) makes you more comfortable
More comfortable interacting with others different then you (even if diff race then roommate - its not specific cultural knowledge)
How can changes in attitudes and behaviours have different sources?
Attitudes: maybe subtyping roommate. social desirability (on self-report)
Behaviours: Maybe less stress
Feel increase positivity towards some group members (but not generalizing it to the whole group)
Where would she like to see the future studies go?
Look at international roommates
Is there a bias going on (students had to opt into the assignment program)

- Maybe they only captured extroverts
Is it more / less impactful if you are already exposed to diverse people?
What would she like to see in the future?
How this impacts social action
if ppl are willing to work to bigger social change
