Rocinha is the largest Favella. It housed 100,000 people. The mountains around the city restrict growth. 200 people dies due to land slides by these mountains.
Housing policies
Self help schemes have improved the area from slums to low quality housing which include basic amenities such as electricity.
Site and service schemes are projects taken by the local authorities t relocated people from the favelas. E.g slum to neighboured project. Services in these areas include schools and healthcare centres.
Charities such as developing minds foundation are building schools and supports education programs in Rios favelas. Aim is to improve literacy rate for children.
