- dysentery, diarrhoea and skin infections
What was the response?
Military either not helping it only helping cities and not rural areas and whenever aid was offered, it was either turned away or not aloud in certain areas (1 in 10 people helped in a week)
What made the situation worse?
Government wouldn’t let any help in causing the strict military government in charge of helping people. This meant hardly anyone was helped, increasing looting and crime rate
Why are tropical storms worse in a LEDC?
- buildings are not strong enough (95% gone)
- millions left homeless
- sewage systems overwhelmed ->leakage ->contaminating rice fields and spreading disease
- electricity gone
