Many habitats were destroyed.
In November 2010, Hurricane Tomas left many camps flooded, which slowed down the recovery.
Many houses were built out of scrap material, so when the Earthquake occurred they simply collapsed.

Social impacts
Years on from the Earthquake many people were still living camps.
These camps were inadequate.
People didn’t have a chance to make any income, so couldn’t rebuild their lives

Costed the government $8 billion to repair the damage.

Responses
Dominican Republic was the fist to give aid of food, water and machinery.
However, there was so much rubble that planes could’t land and roads for destroyed.
Millions of dollars have been raised to help 1.8 million people.
Locals have been trained on how to build houses that won’t collapse during an Earthquake.
Recovery
Aid was used to help improve the water supply of 340,000 people.
Free medical care was provided to 39,000 people.
Literacy classes were run for 60,000 women to help support themselves and their family.
