Many habitats were destroyed.
In November 2010, Hurricane Tomas left many camps flooded, which slowed down the recovery.
Many houses were built out of scrap material, so when the Earthquake occurred they simply collapsed.

4,000 schools which meant that many children missed out on an education.

Social impacts
Years on from the Earthquake many people were still living camps.
These camps were inadequate.
People didn’t have a chance to make any income, so couldn’t rebuild their lives

Costed the government $8 billion to repair the damage.
Crops were destroyed (farmers lost out on income.)
